BlackLift Poetry House (BlackLift Music & Poetry Festival)

On Saturday, February 25, Southern Word will host the annual BlackLift Poetry House where new and established poets and songwriters lift their voices to elevate the beauty and triumphs of Black culture. The event includes a Freestyle Gallery in which some of the city’s top and newest freestyle artists take prompts from the audience and weave them into powerful messages about the past, present, and future. Rashad thaPoet Rayford will emcee. Pizza will be served for those 18 and under.

This event is in partnership with Studio NPL and the National Museum of African American Music supported by Metro Arts, Tennessee Arts Commission, and the Nashville Public Library Foundation as part of the BlackLift Music & Poetry Festival.

This event has limited capacity. Please register below to attend. We encourage early arrival to ensure entry. Youth interested in performing should complete the form below but it does not guarantee a performance slot at BlackLift Poetry House. Someone from Southern Word will contact you about your interest.
